RedEspañaII is an initiative led by the Spanish Fisheries Confederation (CEPESCA), in collaboration with the National Federation of Fishermen’s Guilds (FNCP) and the Automotive Technology Centre of Galicia (CTAG), which promotes a comprehensive system at the national level for the collection, traceability, recycling and revaluation of discarded fishing gear and nets.

The project gives continuity and expands on the achievements achieved in the first phase of Redes de España, developing new digital tools (such as the RENET platform), strengthening the involvement of the fishing sector and net producers, increasing collection and recovery capacity and promoting innovative and eco-design solutions for the manufacture of new gear from recycled nets and gear.

In addition, RedEspañaII incorporates a social and cultural programme called Red Viva, which highlights the traditional knowledge of netters, integrating it with technological innovation, advanced materials and good practices for a more sustainable use of the gear. The project also includes a complete communication plan to raise awareness among the sector and the general public, and contribute to the reduction of marine litter in line with European and national circular economy policies.
