The general objective of the CETAPES project is to analyse and evaluate the by-catches of protected species that occur in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, through active collaboration with the fishing sector and stranding networks.
Specific objectives:
OE1. Design sampling and necropsies. Work will be done to collect information on the proportion of captured animals that arrive at the coast and, taking into account the capture site and the stranding area, a drift model will be constructed.
OE2. Determine the biological profile of captured cetaceans together with other available data (e.g. environmental variables) to understand what factors affect the occurrence of bycatch and also to better understand why bycatch occurs. Obtain information on the number of catches and the factors that affect the occurrence of bycatch.
OE3. To evaluate the perception of cetaceans by the fishing sector.
OE4. Communication plan and dissemination of the results.
