The jury of the European Business Awards for the Environment in Spain met today at the headquarters of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment to select the twelve companies awarded in the European Business Awards for the Spanish section. In turn, these companies will be sent as representatives to the European Commission for the awards at the European level.
This year there have been 125 nominations received to participate in these Awards for the different categories, 38 of them large companies and 61 SMEs. The applications have been divided into the categories: “Management for sustainable development”, “Product and/or service for sustainable development”, “Process for sustainable development”, “International business cooperation for development”, and the special category “Business and Biodiversity”.
The Biodiversity Foundation has been coordinating the Spanish section of these awards since 2013 with the aim of “ensuring that there is Spanish representation among the winning companies of the Awards at European level, as happened with Red Eléctrica de España in the last edition”, as explained by its director and president of the jury, Sonia Castañeda.
The jury, made up of eleven experts in sustainability and business, has evaluated the 125 applications submitted for all categories and has selected two companies for each of them, one large and one small. In addition to a maximum of two runners-up per category. After the meeting, up to a maximum of twelve selected candidates will be sent to the European Commission, who will compete for the European selection of the awards, which will be announced in October of this year in the town of Tallinn (Estonia).
Sonia Castañeda thanked the collaboration of the jury, which included “experts of the highest level, representatives of different fields such as the private sector, the third sector and public institutions, and who are a key piece to maintain the prestige of these awards”.
The jury’s decision will be known at the end of spring, when the awards ceremony will take place in its Spanish section.
