The Secretary General for Territory and Biodiversity and President of the Board of Trustees of the Biodiversity Foundation, Antonio Serrano, yesterday presided over the inauguration of the conference “Before the fire: solutions to forest fires in Spain”, organized by the Biodiversity Foundation and the Santander Central Hispano Foundation.

Representatives of the Ministry of the Environment and various autonomous communities participated in this meeting, as well as experts in this field and social strata affected by the problem. During the day, a diagnosis of the situation of forest fires in Spain was carried out and the potential, effectiveness and degree of implementation of legal, administrative, economic and social instruments for their prevention were analyzed. In addition, a round table was held to publicize policies and actions articulated by the public administrations.
