The Minister of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, Miguel Arias Cañete, explained that the Biodiversity Foundation will focus in 2012 on “the promotion of the economy, employment and the conservation of ecosystems, managing projects worth 25 million euros, which means that it multiplies by four the allocation of the Ministry (6.5 million euros for 2012)”.
During the press conference to present the 2012 Action Plan of the Biodiversity Foundation, accompanied by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Federico Ramos, and the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Sonia Castañeda, Arias Cañete placed the emphasis on turning the Biodiversity Foundation into an “effective, efficient and European” institution.
In this sense, the Minister stressed that the Foundation is configured as a “solvent and agile vehicle to develop actions related to the Ministry’s policy, channeling the participation of citizens and the business fabric, and as a forum for collaboration and dialogue with civil society”.
With this Action Plan, the Foundation aims to adapt to the current moment with “the least possible impact on its collaborations, as well as to enhance one of its strengths: its ability to be a driving force for European projects in which it participates”.
