The “Beaches, Rivers, Volunteering and Land Stewardship” Programme, launched by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, will carry out different volunteering activities until the end of the year.
Firstly, the Grup de Natura Freixe will carry out three days of volunteering in the Illa dels Xops, Finca Mas de l’Illa and in Illa de Putxó. The first of these, which will take place on 13 September, will consist of cleaning up waste and planting riverside trees in the Xops area in the Flix meander. The remaining two will take place on October 18 and November 15, respectively, where invasive vegetation will also be eliminated.
The Association of Environmental Sciences (ACA) will also develop activities to raise awareness about the environmental values of the Henares River. In this way, on September 11 and 25 and October 2, a waste collection will be carried out and the wildlife crossings will be evaluated and conditioned, as well as bats will be monitored.
For its part, Proxecto ríos will carry out a simultaneous cleaning in the Galician municipalities of A Coruña, A Estrada, Allariz, Ames, Arzúa, Cambre, Carballo, Fene, Gondomar, Lugo, Muxía, Poio, Ponteareas, Pontevedra, Rianxo, Ribadumia, Salceda de Caselas, Santiago de Compostela, San Sadurniño, Teo and Tomiño, on September 27 in the VIII simultaneous day.
Finally, the Seville Aquarium and the Man and Territory Association join forces to organize a beach clean-up day in Doñana with the intention of raising awareness, informing and acting on the problem of marine litter. This activity will take place on September 26 and will be carried out with the collaboration of the Doñana Natural Area and the company Rosabús.
All these actions are part of the “Beaches, Rivers, Volunteering and Land Stewardship” programme, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, through the Biodiversity Foundation, to involve citizens and promote environmental volunteering in the conservation of the country’s maritime and river spaces. This program is aimed at custodial entities to be able to carry out restoration actions in custodial spaces through environmental volunteering.
