The twenty-ninth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) has begun in Baku (Azerbaijan). From today until 22 November, COP29 will bring together leaders from governments, businesses and civil society to find concrete solutions to one of the most important problems of our time. According to the United Nations, COP29 is a crucial opportunity to accelerate action to address the climate crisis. During the meeting, compliance with the 2015 Paris Agreement will be taken stock and countries will present their updated national climate action plans, which must be delivered in early 2025. Another key issue will be the financing needed for countries to drastically reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and protect themselves from the growing effects of climate change. The Government of Spain, as was the case in the last edition held in Dubai, has a pavilion in the blue zone where more than 50 events will take place in which the different Spanish and international entities, companies and administrations present at the COP will participate.
Thus, the Spanish Pavilion is conceived as a meeting place for entities to present their agreements and objectives in terms of climate ambition. As last year, 100% of the events can be followed in streaming through the social media channels of the Biodiversity Foundation. All the information to follow them online and the complete program is available at this link.
In the Spanish Pavilion, the Biodiversity Foundation organizes on Thursday, November 21 at 10 a.m. the event “Integrating biodiversity into climate action: strategies and benefits for a more sustainable and resilient future”, which addresses the interdependence between biodiversity and climate change, highlighting how the conservation and restoration of biodiversity can be an effective mitigation and adaptation strategy and fundamental for future climate resilience.
