The Minister of the Environment, Cristina Narbona, has presented the Extraordinary Environment Award to Artemio Precioso, in recognition of the relevance and notoriety of his merits in the environmental field.
Born in Hellín (Albacete) in 1917, Artemio Precioso Ugarte has extensive and fruitful activity, both in the academic field and in active participation in national and international institutions and organizations linked to the environment. He was one of the promoters of Greenpeace in Spain and has held the Honorary Presidency of this organization since 2003. His most notable action was in 1983 aboard the Sirius, in the Strait of Gibraltar, where he fought against whaling by the Soviet fishing fleet.
Author of numerous works and publications, especially in the area of environmental economics, Artemio Precioso brought a new vision of natural resources and the environment to the economy. He founded the Center for Socioecological Studies, from where he contributed to training young economists in environmental economics.
