The Minister of the Environment, Cristina Narbona, has signed a collaboration agreement in Murcia between the Ministry of the Environment, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and the City Council of La Unión, for the recovery and environmental adaptation of the bay of Portmán.

The agreement divides the work for recovery into three phases, which begin with the call for a competition of ideas on the actions to be carried out.

Organizing, processing and assuming the actions of this first phase corresponds to the City Council of La Unión.

The second phase consists of the preparation and approval of three technical projects that will be based on the overall solution that won the ideas competition. The planned projects have to do with the recovery and environmental adaptation works of the bay; the actions on the recovered area; and the construction of a nautical sports facility.

The third stage is the implementation of the projects that have been approved.

The Ministry of the Environment will be responsible for drafting and executing the project relating to environmental recovery and adaptation works, in accordance with the alternative selected in the ideas competition. It will also promote the necessary procedures for the execution of the agreement in the areas within its competence.

Finally, the Region of Murcia is responsible for financing the prizes that will be distributed in the ideas competition and promoting the development and execution of the technical project corresponding to the nautical-sports facility.
