The Minister of the Environment, Cristina Narbona, yesterday visited the hydroelectric plant “Los Alorines” and the Balsa de San Diego. The work of the “Los Alorines” hydroelectric power plant, located in the municipality of Villena (Alicante), is the most important of those that make up section VI of the Júcar-Vinalopó pipeline and constitutes the end point of this pipeline, which connects with the post-transfer.

The works – which include the manhole connecting the plant with sections V and VII of the transfer, the pipe that runs from this manhole to the plant and the Alorines hydroelectric power plant itself – are practically completed.

After passing through “Los Alorines”, the water of the Júcar will go to the future post-transfer, which will have a branch that will carry the water to the left bank of the Vinalopó and another branch that will lead it to the right bank.

Section VI connects directly with sections V and VII, through a manhole that allows the water from the San Diego reservoir (section VII) to go to this hydroelectric plant. This pond – with a capacity of 20 cubic hectometres – is one of the largest in Spain. Its function is to store and regulate the flows of the transfer that will supply the users of the Vinalopó.
