The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has participated in a day of exchange of demonstrative experiences for the promotion of sustainability in agriculture, aimed at the primary sector of Campo de Cartagena in Murcia. The conference was attended by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Morán, and the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Elena Pita. During his speech, Hugo Morán presented the progress of the Framework of Priority Actions to Recover the Mar Menor (MAPMM) for which the Government has already allocated 96.91 million euros, which represents 20% of the total investment planned in this planning. Morán stressed that the General State Budget for 2023 contemplates an endowment of 148.75 million euros in different items aimed at advancing the development of the MAPMM, and stressed the importance of collaboration between Administrations and with the agents involved in the recovery of the lagoon. For her part, Elena Pita highlighted the moment of global transformation that we are facing and that also affects agriculture, and pointed out that the collaboration of the agricultural sector is essential in the promotion of a more sustainable model. With this objective, the MITECO Biodiversity Foundation will carry out the management of a call for grants that has an endowment of 20 million euros and whose publication is scheduled in the coming months. For the design of this call, MITECO wanted to know the needs of the primary sector, when implementing measures for the environmental restoration of the lagoon that are compatible with economic development. The celebration of this day is framed in this context, in which representatives of the farmers and irrigators of the Campo de Cartagena have also participated. At the meeting it was clear that the Framework of Priority Actions to Recover the Mar Menor (MAPMM) not only seeks to contribute to the environmental improvement of the lagoon but also to support the farmer who carries out good practices.
