€4.9 million to improve the skills of workers to boost the green economy

The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) will allocate 4.9 million euros to support 46 projects aimed at increasing the skills and qualification of workers in sectors of the green and blue economy thanks to the 2020 call for grants of the Empleaverde Programme that has just been resolved.

The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) will allocate 4.9 million euros to support 46 projects aimed at increasing the skills and qualification of workers in sectors of the green and blue economy thanks to the 2020 call for grants of the Empleaverde Programme that has just been resolved.

The creation of green and blue jobs represents an opportunity to contribute to the conservation and recovery of ecosystems. Along these lines, through this Programme co-financed by the European Social Fund, the Biodiversity Foundation supports companies and organisations that wish to reorient their business model to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the green recovery, promoting and supporting access to training and training.

These grants promote the sustainability of economic activities in all sectors, promoting the just transition towards a circular and low-carbon economy, integrating biodiversity into management and business processes, and making more efficient use of natural resources, with the ultimate goal of generating opportunities that contribute to the sustainable recovery of the economy and social progress.

In this case, of the 213 applications received, 3.76 million euros have been awarded for 36 projects that will act in the field of the green economy and 1.13 million euros for 10 projects linked to the blue economy. These 46 projects will be aimed at some 8,000 people who already work in sectors such as adaptation to climate change, the circular economy and sustainable tourism.

Other initiatives focus on sustainable agriculture, ecological restoration or even the minimization of environmental impact in epidemics and pandemics. In addition, actions are addressed whose objective is the fixation of population in rural areas.

9.4 MILLION FOR THE CREATION OF GREEN JOBS
Recently,the Biodiversity Foundation has published two new calls for the Empleaverde Programme with an endowment of 9.8 million euros to launch new actions to support employment and green entrepreneurship. One of the calls is aimed at supporting projects aimed at creating green employment through training, advice and social innovation aimed at unemployed people and has a financial endowment of 9.4 million euros.

The other call, for 400,000 euros, will be aimed at projects that launch training, advice, meetings and training stays aimed at entrepreneurs, both workers and unemployed people, who want to create a company.

Another of the main objectives of the Empleaverde Programme is to offer an outlet to priority groups such as women, people over 45 years of age, young people under 35, immigrants, people with disabilities and residents of protected areas or rural areas.
