The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition allocates 5.82 million euros to promote projects that promote employment and the green and blue economy within the framework of the 2018 call for subsidies of the Empleaverde Programme. A total of 43 entities will develop 45 projects thanks to this call. Representatives of these entities have attended an informative meeting held at the headquarters of the Biodiversity Foundation to learn about aspects related to the management and subsequent justification of their projects.
In this year’s call we find projects aimed at some 7,000 people, including unemployed people and entrepreneurs from different sectors, such as climate change mitigation, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, energy saving and efficiency or sustainable forest management.
Other projects focus on sustainable agriculture, sustainable transport and mobility, green and blue sustainable tourism or the circular economy. In addition, initiatives whose objective is to promote sustainable entrepreneurship in rural areas are addressed.
To date, the empleaverde Programme has co-financed 339 projects, collaborated with 500 organisations and supported 1,300,000 recipients, creating 2,600 companies and lines of business in economic sectors linked to the environment. These figures will increase since within the framework of the Program the Ministry for Ecological Transition will launch annual calls until 2022.
In total, this Programme plans to allocate 67 million euros with the aim of supporting more than 50,000 people and 3,000 companies. At the beginning of 2019, the third call for grants of the Program will be opened. Of the 67 million euros, more than 10 million will be allocated to promoting the blue economy. Thus, it is intended to create 600 jobs and support 400 companies, as well as train more than 3,200 people linked to the sea. All this to highlight the potential offered by the marine Natura 2000 Network. The 2018 call is the second of the calls that the Biodiversity Foundation will launch annually within the framework of the Empleaverde Programme for the period 2017-2023.
Among its objectives, the Programme seeks to promote a sustainable economy, as well as offering an outlet to priority groups such as women, people over 45 years of age, young people under 35, immigrants, people with disabilities and residents of protected areas or rural areas.
The empleaverde Programme, co-financed by the European Social Fund, aims to create jobs, increase the skills and qualifications of workers and support the creation and consolidation of companies in a green and blue economy. This Programme is co-financed by the ESF’s Operational Programme for Employment, Training and Education (POEFE), the EU’s most important instrument for promoting employment and social inclusion.
