The French employers’ organization Medef is in favor of establishing a European carbon tax, according to the newspaper Le Monde.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s idea of establishing a French tax as part of national taxation was rejected by the Constitutional Council last December.
Now the employers’ chamber proposes to think of a tax measure similar to the one proposed by the president, but at the European level, so that companies limit the emission of greenhouse gases. With some conditions, including a “green check” or the restitution of the savings effort.
