Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India, has announced that his country will allocate 50 million dollars to strengthen the mechanisms necessary to preserve the country’s biodiversity over the next two years.

Singh made the remarks on the sidelines of COP 11, which concludes next Friday and brings together some 15,000 delegates from more than 170 countries in Hyderabab.

The prime minister stressed the need to reach firm agreements in defence of biodiversity and called on countries to work actively to achieve the Aichi Targets.

On the other hand, the president has insisted on the urgent need to work to guarantee food security, and has stated that, in the midst of the serious problems generated by climate change, the fight for food security is a challenge for humanity.
