The Tagus-Segura Aqueduct Exploitation Commission met this morning under the chairmanship of the Director General of Water of the Ministry of the Environment, Jaime Palop. The situation of the reservoirs at the head of the Tagus – Entrepeñas and Buendía – from which the transfer is fed has been studied, and the exceptional hydrological circumstances contemplated by the Law on the Exploitation of the Tagus-Segura Aqueduct of 16 October 1980 and the Royal Decree of 27 December 1985 have been confirmed.
According to this Law and this Royal Decree, if at the beginning of April there are reserves of less than 504 cubic hectometres in the upper headwaters of the Tagus (supplier of the water of the Transfer), it will be the Council of Ministers who must decide the amount to be transferred. These reserves are expected to reach 332 cubic hectometres by the end of March.
Consequently, the Commission has decided to submit a report to the Council of Ministers so that it is the highest body of the Executive who makes the decision, in accordance with the Law, on the possible transfer corresponding to the third quarter (April, May, June) of this hydrological year.
