The Director General of Water, Jaime Palop, will inaugurate tomorrow the conference “Drought as news”. He will be accompanied by the vice-rector of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Javier Benayas, and the president of the Association of Environmental Information Journalists, Luis Guijarro.
This meeting aims to bring together experts and journalists to talk about drought in relation to issues such as climate change, the Water Framework Directive, water banks, groundwater, irrigation or water in the city.
The day is divided into two blocks: the first will analyse the current situation and the president of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation, José Salvador Fuentes, and representatives of the Tagus, Júcar and Guadalquivir Hydrographic Confederations will take part; the second block will consist of a round table with experts, including Mª Fernanda Pita, from the University of Seville; Abel La Calle, from the University of Almeria; Pedro Arrojo, from the University of Zaragoza; Juan Antonio López Geta, from the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain; José Roldán, from the University of Cordoba, and Enrique Cabrera, from the University of Valencia.
