After three years of coordinated work in the three artificial wetlands of l’Albufera de Valencia, the LIFE ALBUFERA project has held a conference to publicise the results of this initiative.
The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, which supports this project through its call for grants, has participated in this conference, in which other experiences related to the role of wetlands in the recovery of water, habitats and birds have also been discussed.
The final objective of the project has been to demonstrate how an adequate integrated management of these spaces allows to achieve the triple objective of improving water quality, the extension of priority habitats and the conservation status of birds. In this way, integrating compliance with three of the European directives (Water, Birds and Habitats) of greatest importance for the conservation of biodiversity, the aim is to improve the conservation status of the wetland and generate planning tools that are the basis of the management plans of the Albufera SPA.
