The Aula del Mar in Malaga has hosted the fourth informative workshop on Marine Strategies in Spain, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, through the Directorate General for Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea. These conferences aim to make local agents, entities in the area, tourists and residents aware of what the Marine Strategies consist of and their importance as a tool for the conservation of the marine environment.
The workshops have been established in five coastal cities (Tenerife, Vigo, Cádiz, Malaga and Valencia) that belong to each of the marine demarcations determined by the Law on the Protection of the Marine Environment. During the conference, experts who have participated in the preparation of the Marine Strategies have detailed the characteristics of each demarcation and presented the necessary measures to improve their state of conservation.
The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, has participated to explain the financing possibilities that have been defined for each demarcation within the framework of its management as an intermediate body of structural funds and its own projects. The objective of the Marine Strategies is to achieve or maintain a good environmental status by 2020.
The workshop in Malaga began with an overview of the state of the demarcation of the Strait of Gibraltar and Alborán and, subsequently, the actions that will be carried out in this area were detailed. The last workshop on the dissemination of the Marine Strategies will take place on September 22 in Valencia.
