The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment, Isabel García Tejerina, has assured that advancing in the protection of the environment and the fight against climate change requires the support and consensus of all. For the minister, these challenges will also be important opportunities if we have the collaboration of administrations, companies, institutions and citizens. The Minister made these statements today at the inauguration of the XIII edition of the National Congress on the Environment (CONAMA 2016), which is being held at the Municipal Conference Centre in Madrid until 1 December, under the slogan “The answer is GREEN”, with the aim of involving people and organisations in the transformation towards a low-carbon economy. circular and green.
In his speech, García Tejerina recalled how this National Congress began its journey coinciding with the celebration of the Rio Earth Summit (1992), which was decisive for the implementation of several international instruments such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Convention on Biological Diversity.
In terms of climate change, the minister commented that, after agreeing on the Paris commitments, the recent Marrakech Climate Summit defined the work programme that will allow the implementation of the Paris Agreement and its timetable, in addition to highlighting the initiatives being promoted by non-governmental actors. For García Tejerina, after the Marrakech Summit we are in a process of transition towards a low-carbon model that is resilient to climate change that is irreversible.
Once again, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment has a stand within the framework of CONAMA. On this occasion, on the occasion of the centenary of the publication of the first National Parks Law of Spain, in 1916, a pioneer in the world of its kind, the Ministry’s stand offers visitors a tour of the 15 natural spaces that enjoy the maximum protection in our territory and that make up the Network of National Parks.
The Ministry has reused the CONAMA 2014 space, built with 100% recyclable and reusable products, manufactured in Spain with FSC-certified material, thus aligning with the principles of this congress. Specific content has been printed on separate panels so that the entire structure can be reused at subsequent events. In addition, a “zero paper” approach has been chosen, with the printing of graphic documents reduced to a minimum, to avoid the publication of printed material, brochures, books or paper documents. In this way, it has also contributed to reducing the emissions that would have been produced with its transport.
