The Biodiversity Foundation and Oceana commemorate European Maritime Day, which will be held in Gijón between 18 and 21 May, with a photographic exhibition. Under the title “Marine biodiversity. A treasure that we must protect”, the exhibition will feature fifteen high-quality photographs taken on the Spanish underwater bottom.
The images have been taken in recent years during the expeditions of the Oceana Ranger research catamaran, which have been carried out with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation and with the co-financing of EAFRD funds. Its objective has been to document and identify areas of ecological importance within Spanish waters in order to propose measures for their conservation.
The images, some of them unpublished, have been taken by renowned underwater photographers, winners of various international awards. In them you can see habitats and species of great ecological value on the peninsular coasts, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. The description of each of the snapshots is offered in Spanish and English.
