The Minister of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, Rosa Aguilar, will participate, on Sunday, June 5 in Carcabuey (Cordoba), in the event in which 280 specimens of Mediterranean shrub species will be planted. Subsequently, he will preside over the celebration of the XX Anniversary of the Andalusian Committee of Organic Agriculture.
The Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs and the Biodiversity Foundation join the celebration of World Environment Day with participation in different environmental awareness projects. This year the slogan chosen by the United Nations is “Forests: Nature at your service”.
The Minister of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, Rosa Aguilar, will participate on Sunday, June 5 in Carcabuey (Córdoba), in the event in which 280 specimens of Mediterranean shrub species will be planted and specimens of protected birds of prey will be released. The activity is scheduled for 12:00. Then, at 1:00 p.m., the Minister will preside over the celebration of the XX Anniversary of the Andalusian Committee of Organic Agriculture, in which 1500 specimens of Mediterranean tree species (holm oaks, wild olive trees, stone pines, ash and carob trees) will be distributed, which is held in the same municipality.
On Saturday, 4 June, at the Casa Encendida in Madrid, the third edition of the “Zero Emission Sustainability Week” will be held, which will be inaugurated by the Secretary of State for Climate Change, Teresa Ribera, at 6.30 pm. This week of debates and documentaries, between 4 and 11 June, has been organised by the Despierta Cultural Association in collaboration with the Biodiversity Foundation with the aim of reflecting on a more sustainable model of life. After the opening ceremony, there will be a debate on “The work of civil society in the face of climate change”. Admission to the screenings and tables programmed in “Emissionzero” is free. On Sunday, meanwhile, the director of Communication and Awareness of the FB, Julia Vera, moderates the discussion table “How to stop the loss of biodiversity?”, in which Karen Soeters, director of the documentary “The truth about the sea”, and Jesús Casas, general director of Sustainable Development of the Ministry of the Environment, will participate, among others. and Rural and Marine Affairs. Also on Sunday at 9.45 a.m., the general director of the Spanish Office for Climate Change of the MARM, Alicia Montalvo, accompanied by Fabián Roncero, will start the Popular Race for the Environment and Sustainable Development, “Eco-run”, which is held in Madrid. The profits go to environmental projects carried out by the most important NGOs in our country.
On the other hand, in different parts of Spain, Sunday will be the day to “get wet because of the humidity”: This is an environmental volunteering program in Spanish wetlands developed by the Biodiversity Foundation with the collaboration of five local entities. A series of conservation and environmental education actions are planned in these valuable ecosystems of Alicante, Burgos, Teruel, Guadalajara and Tarragona:
• On Sunday, the director of the FB, Ana Leiva, will attend the Gayangos Lagoon (Burgos), where the Oxygen Foundation (www.fundacionoxigeno.org) has planned a day of waste collection from the environment; the elimination of invasive flora species and the installation of nest boxes. Likewise, recreational activities will be offered such as a talk-concert and a series of environmental interpretation routes for the whole family. Two photographic exhibitions on the biodiversity of the area will also be inaugurated.
• In the El Hondo wetland (Alicante), Miguel Ángel Pérez, deputy director of the FB, and María José Viñals, director of the Spanish Wetlands Center (CEHUM), together with the Association of Environmental Sciences of the Valencian Community (www.coambcv.com) and the brigades of the El Hondo Natural Park will work on the elimination of invasive species, including carp (Cyprinus carpio). present in this natural space.
• In the Laguna del Cañizar wetland (Teruel) there are workshops on recycling, bird ringing, games in nature, a talk on the environmental values of the Cañizar, as well as guided tours of the lagoon (http://www.lagunadelcanizar.es/).
• The International Foundation for Ecosystem Restoration (FIRE, www.fundacionfire.org) proposes a volunteer day in the Miralcampo Lagoon (Guadalajara). There, waste from the environment will be collected, a demonstration will be carried out on the procedure for analysing the quality of the water in the lagoon and a botanical itinerary along the banks of the Henares River that will end at the Ornithological Reserve of La Acequilla.
• In Tarragona, the Grup de Natura Freixe (www.reservanaturalsebes.org), will remove waste from the wetland environment located in the Flix Meander Wildlife Natural Reserve, invasive exotic flora will be eliminated and native species will be planted.
