The awareness campaign “Get your Kyoto card” promoted by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of the Environment, has so far achieved the adhesion of 2,200 members from all over the world to the Kyoto Club. Citizens, companies, entities and public administrations have committed themselves to this initiative that aims to fight against global warming.

The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of the Environment launched this campaign on November 2, 2005, with which it aims to raise awareness in society about the need to support the Kyoto Protocol, signed by Spain in 1998.

It is about citizens making real commitments that involve the adoption of habits and customs in their daily lives in terms of energy, respectful of the environment. Actions such as turning off the red light on the television when you are not watching, using energy-saving light bulbs, turning off the lights when leaving a room, using the washing machine and dishwasher when they are really full, or using the air conditioning moderately, are some of the commitments that these more than 2,000 members of the Kyoto Club have expressed on the website of the www.fundacion-biodiversidad.es Biodiversity Foundation.

Among those who already have the Kyoto card there are not only adults, but also three-year-old children who have shown environmental awareness by sending their commitment. In addition, the Club not only has Spanish citizens and companies, citizens from different Latin American countries have also joined this campaign, such as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

All the people, entities, companies and public administrations that have sent their commitments to the environment to the Biodiversity Foundation, have received at their home the card that accredits them as members of the Kyoto Club.

To get the Kyoto card you have to enter www.fundacion-biodiversidad.es and access the microsite “Get your Kyoto card”. This section not only offers information about the Kyoto Protocol and documents of interest, but also the Internet user can consult the commitments made by those who are already members of the Kyoto Club and see some ideas proposed by this institution. When entering the “Be part of the Club” section, the citizen only has to fill in their details and explain what their contribution will be to help mitigate climate change. The Biodiversity Foundation will soon send to your home the card that accredits you as a member of the Kyoto Club.
