After agreeing to create the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) during the XI Conference of the Parties (COP11) held in October in Hyderabad (India), last weekend the definitive operational system of this platform was established.
The purpose of this organization, whose headquarters have been decided to be established in Bonn (Germany), is to address the problems arising from the loss of biological diversity worldwide and the degradation of ecosystems. This tool will make it possible to directly approach, connect and coordinate scientific researchers with the political class, so that there is a link between science and political strategies.
IPBES will be able to identify scientific information required to formulate new policies, as well as appropriate tools and methodologies and necessary support in activities related to the development of biodiversity strategies.
