The deadline for submitting proposals has been extended until November 21. Anyone who wishes to do so can request to be present in this space through this form.
The organization of the 25th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25), chaired by Chile and to be held in Madrid between December 2 and 13, encourages civil society to show their commitments to climate action in the Green Zone of the summit. It is an opportunity to mobilise organisations, companies and public administrations around sustainability and the fight against climate change.
The Summit marks 15 days of climate action in Madrid. It will be held at the IFEMA – Feria de Madrid venue, occupying a total of seven pavilions, representing more than 100,000 square metres, as well as an additional space of around 13,000 square metres in the congress area.
Thus, in parallel to the Blue Zone, a space administered by the United Nations and in which the COP25 negotiation sessions will take place, work is being done on the organisation of the Green Zone, of some 3,000 m2, a space for citizens, meeting and environmental awareness, open throughout the conference, with which Spain wants to contribute to facilitating the participation of all civil society. It is a pavilion of open dialogue with spaces for all actors of civil society, with several differentiated areas.
The programme of activities in each space will be coordinated by one or more organisations representing its area. Applications for participation are managed through a form, which is available on the MITECO website, and whose deadline for submitting proposals has been extended until November 21.
In the Green Zone, a space is opened at the Climate Summit so that society can express itself in an interactive, participatory and inclusive way, generating content regarding climate action. To encourage maximum participation, an open space has been created for dialogue, awareness-raising and shared decision-making, and different participatory channels have been designed involving local governments, public and private institutions, administrations, entrepreneurs, NGOs, companies, universities, indigenous peoples and young people.
In fact, the green zone will be divided into different areas that include a space dedicated to young people, another dedicated to indigenous communities, a third zone for innovation and science, and a space for civil society organizations, among others. Along with these spaces, there will also be room in the green zone for climate action proposals from the business world. In addition, the organization of COP25 will propose a space for the presentation and debate of initiatives on both sides of the Atlantic.
The central space of the Green Zone will be a meeting point for all the spaces in the area. Here, activities related to the topics addressed in the COP25 Blue Zone will be scheduled daily that connect the two spaces.
All those interested in participating are invited to answer the same question, which must be evident in every activity, performance, exhibition, talk or debate: How do you/organization contribute through concrete actions or examples to a carbon-neutral and climate-resilient planet by 2050?
Once all the proposals have been received and evaluated, the final program of the Green Zone will be formed and the registration process for the various activities will be opened. The system used will be the day pass. To access this space, it is not necessary to be accredited for the Blue Zone, although all people with the access badge to the space managed by the United Nations will be able to access the Green Zone in the same way.
