Sonia Castañeda, director of the International Department of the Biodiversity Foundation, participated today in the presentation of the Ecoagrocultures project, carried out by Ecologists in Action, within the framework of the Empleaverde Programme.

On behalf of Ecologists in Action, Roberto Oliveros Villalobos and Daniel López García were present at the table.

Ecoagroculturas includes training actions related to the cultivation and marketing of organic food, an advisory service for organic agricultural production, the International Seminar on Short Marketing Channels for Organic Agriculture (scheduled for the end of 2010) and a campaign to promote the production and consumption of organic food.

The recipients are workers in rural areas of Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura, with special attention to socially sensitive groups such as women, low-skilled workers, disabled people or the foreign population, those who are most disadvantaged in development processes, and who can therefore be more dynamic in the processes of change.

The project, which runs from October 2009 to February 2011, co-financed by the European Social Fund, will support farmers, processors and consumers interested in organic farming through a comprehensive intervention
