in ecological principles, capable of generating new deposits of green employment.
He also indicated that the threat of climate change highlights the need for a new model of sustainable growth that is a guarantee of a future with better conditions and greater opportunities. To achieve this, Rosa Aguilar has expressed her commitment to develop active policies in the fight against climate change, linked to a development model but also to the fight against inequality and poverty.
On this point, Aguilar has expressed his commitment to the participation of organizations and groups, to which he has extended his hand to develop an environmental roadmap together.
The Minister assured that achieving a renewable, clean and efficient future involves meeting the international objectives for 2012 in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol, laying the foundations for the fulfilment of the objectives beyond 2020, valuing the rational and sustainable use of natural resources, generating stable jobs, and working with determination and firmness to achieve progress at the Cancun Summit.
In relation to this meeting, Rosa Aguilar announced that Spain, within the framework of the European Union, will take a constructive political position to Cancun, with very clear signals that will contribute to the progress of the negotiations and lead to the adoption of a balanced package of decisions.
Rosa Aguilar also pointed out that an obvious consequence of climate change is the loss of biodiversity, which makes it necessary to act based on national and international agreements. Thus, the Minister said, Spain has led during its Presidency of the EU the community position in the negotiations of the Nagoya Summit, which culminated in a broad consensus of 193 countries, a consensus that is specified in the Strategic Plan of the Convention for the period 2011-2020 and that defines the global policy on the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
