On Wednesday, July 20, at its headquarters in Madrid, the Biodiversity Foundation presented the prizes of the “Capital of Biodiversity” contest, which reward those initiatives of local authorities that stand out in the field of biodiversity conservation, and which in this second edition have granted the recognition of Capital of Biodiversity to the City Council of Puebla de Sanabria (Zamora).

The “Capital of Biodiversity” contest closes its second edition. Since 2010, when the first edition took place, this initiative has made it possible to collect information on more than 600 biodiversity projects from almost 100 municipalities.

In addition to Puebla de Sanabria, in the 2011 edition, whose priority theme has been the use of the land, the City Councils of Astillero (Cantabria), El Oso (Ávila), Granollers (Barcelona), Lleida, Miajadas (Cáceres), Monleras (Salamanca), Ourense and Palau-solità i Plegamans (Barcelona) have been awarded.
