The ideas and proposals put forward will serve to feed the process of preparing the new PNACC 2021-2030 as well as to define the objectives and actions of its first Work Programme.

Last September, the evaluation of the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (PNACC), developed within the framework of LIFE SHARA, culminated and highlighted the need to deepen and give more weight to the social dimension of vulnerability to climate change, and to promote lifestyles more aligned with better adaptation and greater resilience to this phenomenon.

To address this approach, the Spanish Office for Climate Change, the Biodiversity Foundation and the National Centre for Environmental Education (CENEAM), entities of the Ministry for Ecological Transition, have organised, within the framework of the LIFE SHARA project, the seminar “Adaptation to climate change: society, education and lifestyles”, which was held at the CENEAM facilities in Valsaín (Segovia).

The seminar, which brought together 35 professionals and experts from different administrations, local and social entities, NGOs, the private sector, education and research, was a forum for reflection and the production of ideas on aspects related to adaptation to climate change from a social perspective.

Issues related to adaptation, such as risks, barriers and opportunities from the fields of vocational technical education and training, employment and innovation, the social component of vulnerability to climate change and the promotion of better adapted lifestyles have been addressed and more resilient. Proposals for future actions have also been made and inspiring experiences and good practices have been exchanged.

The ideas and proposals put forward in this seminar will serve to feed the process of preparing the new PNACC 2021-2030 as well as to define the objectives and actions of its first Work Programme (2021-2025).

This sectoral seminar is part of the LIFE SHARA project, which has among its main objectives the collaboration in the foundation of a society better adapted to climate change, cooperating with all the actors involved, generating knowledge and increasing social awareness.

The LIFE SHARA project, coordinated by the Ministry for Ecological Transition, has a budget of more than 1.5 million euros, 57% co-financed through LIFE funds, and has as partners the Spanish Office for Climate Change, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the Autonomous Agency of National Parks – through the National Centre for Environmental Education (CENEAM) – and the Portuguese Agency for the Environment.
