Achieving the good environmental status of marine ecosystems is the main objective of the project “A sea without waste”, launched by Submon with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment, within the framework of its call for grants.
The initiative aims to raise awareness among primary and secondary school students in all the autonomous communities of the Spanish coast about the problem of marine litter, as well as to disseminate the project among society as a whole to raise awareness among the population about the importance of keeping the seas and oceans clean.
With this objective, this program proposes the creation of a document that generates a protocol and characterizes the marine litter present on the beaches, in addition to creating training material for students and teachers. These documents will serve to enable a didactic unit that will allow work on marine litter in the classrooms.
All the information in the informative materials will be used in rubbish collection and characterisation days in which various educational centres from different autonomous communities will participate. At the same time, the initiative aims to launch the “Sponsor your beach” campaign, which aims to ensure that schools include the conservation of marine ecosystems among the teaching activities they carry out each year by sponsoring a beach in their municipality.
For more information about the project, the organization has created a section on the www.estrategiasmarinas.info website to access all the educational material available.
“A sea without waste” thus joins the set of initiatives that have been beneficiaries of the call for aid for the fight against marine litter launched by the Biodiversity Foundation and Ecoembes.
