The Casa de la Ciencia in Seville today hosted the inauguration of the exhibition “2010 Biodiversity”, an exhibition produced by the Biodiversity Foundation, of the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) which, within the framework of the International Year of Biological Diversity, proposes a journey through some of the most sensitive issues in the field of the environment.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Director General of Sustainable Development and Environmental Information of the Ministry of the Environment, Esperanza Perea; the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Ana Leiva, and the institutional coordinator of the CSIC in Andalusia, Fernando Hiraldo, who have been accompanied by about 100 schoolchildren from the province.

The exhibition is made up of 16 panels designed from a didactic perspective, supported by images, infographics and other visual resources, which make the content more attractive for schoolchildren, since the materials of the exhibition have been designed so that they can be downloaded from the http://www.2010biodiversidad.es/ website and used freely by educational centers. cultural and environmental education, museums, provincial councils, among others. To date, the exhibition has already been downloaded more than 70 times from many corners of Spain, but also from Argentina, Uruguay, Morocco, Colombia and Portugal.

In the exhibition, which will be open to the public at the Casa de la Ciencia in Seville until June 30 – after which it will pass through 9 other towns in the national geography – visitors can also see about 10 showcases with real specimens of flora and fauna from the collections of the National Museum of Natural Sciences and the Doñana Biological Station.

Likewise, a digital information point will be available through which you can access different websites linked to the exhibition and, in another space of the room, a high-definition screen will continuously project photographs with natural and cultural spaces from all corners of the planet.

Several of the panels in the exhibition propose marginal notes where, in addition to their content, other information of interest is noted, such as that Spain is the country that contributes the largest area, in absolute terms, to the European Natura 2000 network: more than 14 million hectares or, in other words, 28% of the national territory.
