The bears of the Somiedo Natural Park break reproduction record

The Somiedo Natural Park (Asturias), named a Biosphere Reserve by Unesco in 2000, has registered an important milestone for the natural park, since in the twelve months of 2012, Somiedo has registered the record for the reproduction of bears.

A total of seven females have given birth to eleven cubs, as indicated by the Fund for the Protection of Wild Animals (FAPAS).

Likewise, along with this record, FAPAS has reported that during this winter, the photographic team has recorded a change in the behavior of at least three bears that have come out of their bear sheds, leaving the hibernation state typical of the winter cold months. In this sense, there has been a search for food activity by three females with their young in the area, where the oaks have produced acorns, ideal food for the species.
