The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, launches a new edition of the volunteering program “Beaches, rivers, volunteering and stewardship of the territory”, which aims to promote the involvement of citizens in the conservation of the coast, in inter-community watersheds as well as in other spaces, expanding the network of volunteers in the maintenance and improvement of these spaces.
Once again, the programme has land stewardship as its protagonist, an innovative tool that involves users of the territory, as well as public and private owners in the conservation and good use of natural, cultural and landscape values and resources.
Since the Programme began in 2012, the volunteers’ activities have focused on waste collection, reforestation and ecosystem conservation, elimination of invasive species, monitoring of species and training and awareness-raising days.
In 2016, the Biodiversity Foundation and Decathlon Spain joined forces to launch an Environmental Volunteering Programme within the framework of the initiative, with the aim of improving sports spaces associated with natural areas near the Decathlon centres and shops. This year a volunteer day will be organized on September 25, with the support of various non-profit organizations, which can submit their proposals to voluntariado@fundacion-biodiversidad.es
