The Biodiversity Foundation has been awarded in the V National Awards “ASFPLANT”, instituted by the Professional Association of Flowers, Plants and Horticultural Technology of the Valencian Community, in the category of Sustainable Rural and Forestry Development – ADERFOS, for its work carried out in defense and recovery of wetlands.

The director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Ana Leiva, collects this award today, in Valencia, at a ceremony where these annual awards are presented, which recognize people, companies or institutions that throughout the year or in their professional career, have excelled in a work in favor of each of the activities that constitute the object of the Association.

The Association has valued the work of the Biodiversity Foundation in defense and recovery of wetlands, carried out, fundamentally, through the Spanish Wetlands Center (CEHUM), located in Gandia, Valencia, jointly with the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the University of Valencia and the City Council of Gandia. The centre was officially inaugurated by the First Vice-President of the Government, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, together with the Minister of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, Elena Espinosa, on 1 February, in an event that was also celebrated on World Wetlands Day.

The CEHUM is a national and international reference center on the rational use that can be made of wetlands, to strengthen the conservation of these valuable ecosystems. And it is that, particularly in our country, wetlands have been forming, over time, a valuable culture associated with their uses; this, thanks to the variety of aquatic environments they present, the diversity of species they host and the uses they support.
