The Biodiversity Foundation has held two new informative meetings aimed at the beneficiaries of the 2013 call for grants for activities related to biodiversity, climate change and environmental quality.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, through the Biodiversity Foundation, allocates 4.2 million euros to this call for the implementation of 121 projects that have been beneficiaries. Of these initiatives, 64 focus on the conservation of natural heritage and biodiversity (53%), 34 on the fight against climate change (24%), and 23 are identified with actions to conserve the marine environment (23%).
A total of 66 beneficiaries of the grants granted for the implementation of projects related to terrestrial biodiversity and marine and coastal biodiversity have been summoned to the information sessions held between yesterday and today. The purpose of these meetings has been to provide all the information about the procedures for monitoring and technical and economic justification of the projects and to promote the knowledge and coordination of the different organizations and their projects.
Terrestrial biodiversity projects promote the maintenance of essential ecological processes and seek to ensure the conservation of natural heritage and biological diversity. Among the approved initiatives are agricultural, forestry and biodiversity management through land stewardship, the conservation of endangered species and the promotion of responsible consumption for biodiversity, among other projects.
In the case of projects related to marine and coastal biodiversity, they pursue the conservation of the marine Natura 2000 Network and the protection of both the coastal and marine environment, against potential impacts and ensure its sustainable development and exploitation. In this context, they encourage citizen participation in the conservation of marine biodiversity, the improvement of sustainability in longline fishing and the reduction of incidental catches of seabirds, among other actions.
These meetings conclude the information sessions that the Biodiversity Foundation has held in recent weeks with the beneficiaries of the call for activities in the field of terrestrial biodiversity, marine and coastal biodiversity, climate change and environmental quality 2013.
