The Biodiversity Foundation has joined the Earth Hour 2010 campaign, an international call launched by the environmental organization WWF with which it seeks to raise awareness among the population about climate change.

Between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. tomorrow, March 27, the Biodiversity Foundation will turn off the lights of its headquarters as a contribution to the defense of the environment and the fight against climate change.

According to WWF, in 2010 some 3,500 cities in 121 countries have committed to turning off the lights of their most emblematic buildings, as a symbolic gesture of support for Earth Hour. Likewise, 1,000 million people are expected to participate in this global action to make a citizen call to governments to achieve an agreement on a global scale.

Spain is among the most active countries when it comes to supporting the initiative, with a large number of companies, public bodies and more than 155 cities that have already confirmed their participation, so they will turn off their most emblematic buildings.

The Puerta de Alcalá and the Royal Palace in Madrid, the Sagrada Familia and the AGBAR Tower in Barcelona, the Mosque of Cordoba, the Aqueduct of Segovia, the walls of Ávila, the Torre del Oro and the Alamillo Bridge in Seville, the beach of Las Canteras in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Plaza Mayor of Salamanca, the Tower of Hercules in La Coruña or the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao will be in darkness for 60 minutes.

In addition, numerous activities will take place, before and during the blackout in several cities in Spain.
