The Biodiversity Foundation participates in the open days held from today by the Spanish Committee of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Plasencia and the Monfragüe National Park with the aim of raising awareness of the good practices carried out in our country to prevent the loss of biodiversity and mitigate the effects of climate change.

The director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Sonia Castañeda, participated in these conferences, “IUCN: Joining forces for nature”, emphasizing the challenges assumed by the Biodiversity Foundation to promote economic revitalization and job creation, through the Empleaverde programme, co-financed by the European Social Fund. This initiative is complemented by the  Red Emprendeverde, aimed at stimulating green entrepreneurship and investment in businesses related to the environment.

In this line, he highlighted the Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative, which seeks to promote, together with the business sector, economic development compatible with the conservation of biodiversity.
The conference is part of the 2013 call for grants of the Biodiversity Foundation that the IUCN has launched with the aim of “reducing damage and enhancing opportunities with nature-based solutions, from IUCN resolutions and recommendations to society’s proposals against climate change”.

Since 2004 the Foundation has carried out several collaborations with different IUCN offices and in 2005 it formally joined both IUCN International and the Spanish Committee. She also participates in various projects and campaigns led by this organization.
