The Biodiversity Foundation has participated in the Third International Congress of Marine Protected Areas (IMPAC 3) that was held between October 21 and 27 in Marseille and Corsica (France).
The Biodiversity Foundation has participated in the session dedicated to tools to support marine protected areas. Specifically, in the workshop “Creating and using marines habitat maps for MPA management”, where the challenges of integrating geospatial data into conservation maps were addressed, as well as other biological characteristics that facilitate the management of marine protected areas.
The objective of IMPAC 3 is to provide tools to achieve the global objective established in the Convention on Biological Diversity to protect 10% of the oceans by 2020.
IMPAC brings together key maritime players around the world. These include representatives of public administration and planning bodies, research institutions, non-governmental organizations, or representatives of marine-related industries. In this way, IMPAC 3 provides a framework for assessing progress made in government programmes and developing new solutions.
