The LIFE INTEMARES project, coordinated by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, premieres this Saturday, January 14, the play “The Invisible Diver”, which uses art and emotions to convey the importance of the ocean and the species and habitats it houses. This work is part of the project’s awareness programme, which aims to raise awareness in society about the value and importance of the marine protected areas of the Natura 2000 Network in Spain. The piece, directed by the company El Gato Sonámbulo, tells the story of a sixty-year-old writer who enjoyed great influence two decades ago. One night he has a strange dream in which the sky becomes a great ocean that floods everything. In the middle of that fantasy, a strange diver will appear who has an important message for her. What she tells her will completely transform the woman and the course of her future. Through this meeting, concepts such as the ecosystem services provided by the ocean, its threats or the great biodiversity that we find in it are discussed. The premiere of the play will take place this Saturday, January 14, at the Sala Pangolí in Barcelona, a place that will host four other performances during the month of January. In addition, the function will soon be available in digital format on the www.descubrenatura2000marina.es website. After the performance of the work, a colloquium will be held with the purpose of presenting in a close and informal way the process of creation of the work, as well as highlighting key concepts and connections that unite the scientific and artistic fields. Representatives of the MITECO Biodiversity Foundation, the theatre company El Gato Sonámbulo and Submon, a collaborating organisation in the development of the different tools that make up the awareness programme of the LIFE project, will participate in this dialogue. In addition, with the aim of bringing the different resources developed closer to society, an event will be held to present the awareness programme in five Spanish cities, a unique opportunity to learn about the set of resources and try some of the experiences proposed, such as an escape room or virtual reality videos. The first of these events took place today in Barcelona, which will be followed by those in Valencia, on January 16; Bilbao, on 19 January; Tenerife, on January 26; and Cádiz, on March 3. To attend, it is necessary to register at the corresponding link. EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF PROTECTED AREAS The LIFE INTEMARES project advances towards the objective of achieving an effective management of the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network, with the active participation of the sectors involved and with research as basic tools. The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge coordinates the project. The Ministry itself, through the Directorate-General for Biodiversity, Forests and Desertification and the Sub-Directorate for the Protection of the Sea; the Regional Government of Andalusia, through the Ministry of Sustainability, Environment and Blue Economy, as well as the Environment and Water Agency; the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC); AZTI; the University of Alicante; the Polytechnic University of Valencia; the Spanish Fisheries Confederation, SEO/BirdLife and WWF Spain. It is supported by the LIFE Program of the European Union.
