The Biodiversity Foundation celebrates World Biodiversity Day tomorrow with a party especially dedicated to young people and their families. In collaboration with Bravo magazine, it wants to invite the public to join the planned recreational activities and the concert that will bring together, in Madrid, musical groups in favor of biodiversity, with the Teenangels and their song “Bravo por la Tierra”, as the central number.

From 6:00 p.m., in the Plaza Sánchez Bustillo in Madrid (next to the Reina Sofía Art Center Museum), Edurne, Jaula de Grillos, Lara, María Villalón, Melocos, Se Alkila and Teenangels will perform. Before the start of the recital (from 12:00 p.m.) there will be informative entertainment and awareness activities and, at the end of it, 2,000 seedlings of trees of native flora will be distributed. Admission will be free.

“We are all part of biodiversity, and we can do a lot for it. Some gestures, which may require some effort, such as recycling, are essential to achieve, together, a healthy planet full of life. It is simply about leading an authentic and intelligent life,” says Ana Leiva, director of the Biodiversity Foundation, who will attend the event tomorrow to add young people to this cause.

He will also encourage them to “talk about biodiversity” on the occasion of the designation by the UN of 2010 as the Year of Biodiversity. In this context, the Foundation has been promoting, since January, a campaign that, with the slogan “Talk about biodiversity. Because something becomes important when you start talking about it,” he encourages everyone to become familiar with this word, integrating it into their daily conversations.

Internet social networks, such as Facebook, are the main platform for disseminating the initiative, where the Foundation proposes topics of conversation related to biodiversity and the vital services it provides to human beings, often unknown. Through the website of the Biodiversity Foundation, www.fundacion-biodiversidad.es, and the www.habladebiodiversidad.com microsite, all the planned actions are articulated, and information on the events of the International Year of Biodiversity can be found.

In addition to multiple conservation entities, the European Commission also joins tomorrow’s celebration, bringing its campaign closer to the public, aimed at raising awareness of the need to halt the loss of biodiversity in the EU, and which revolves around the slogan “Biodiversity. We are all part of it” to emphasize the message that we are part of the network of species and ecosystems and that we are in this together (www.todossomosparte.eu).
