Ignacio Torres, Director of Studies and Projects of the Biodiversity Foundation, participated on 30 September in the Technical Conference ‘Rural Development, Bioenergy and Sustainable Forest Management’, organised by the Ansó-Fago Forest Association.

The president of the Ansó-Fago Forest Association, Félix Ipas; the technical general secretary of the Environment of the Government of Aragon, Roque Vicente, and the general director of Forest Management, Alberto Contreras.

Within this framework, the report of conclusions on the work carried out in the bioenergy experimentation plots and on the implementation of the workshop classroom to raise awareness on sustainable forest management has been presented. In addition, the first biomass heating network in municipal buildings has been switched on and commissioned, in an emblematic first step on the road to the conversion of forestry activity and the use of the facilities of the old sawmill in the town.

Plaques of gratitude were presented at the event to the Biodiversity Foundation and the Department of the Environment of the Government of Aragon, in recognition of the work and commitment to forest services.

This strategic and unique project in Ansó, which pursues the conversion of forestry activity towards biomass and the use of the facilities of the old sawmill, will contribute to sustainable rural development by employing more than twenty people and promoting the sustainable use of forest resources.
