The Fund for the Defense of Nature, WWF/Adena, will develop on the 29th a series of diverse activities in the environmental tent installed in front of the Menéndez Pelayo International University. These activities will range from talks to children’s workshops, in order to make the public and the media aware of the key issues for the present and future of water management in Spain: 1) the need to restore rivers, 2) the conversion of dams to recover rivers that are currently regulated, 3) the importance of environmental flows and 4) water saving.
A few days ago, WWF/Adena published an international report on water problems in developed countries. One of the most shocking conclusions of this study is that Spain turns out to be the developed country that manages its water resources the worst. In a context of climate change, where water scarcity and droughts will only increase, this behavior seems suicidal. To correct this dangerous situation, it is very important that citizens and the media have clear ideas about these problems and their solutions. With these activities, WWF/Adena aims to approach these groups with a very practical and light-hearted approach in order to understand the crucial importance of water for nature, society and human well-being; how we should take care of it and what we should demand to guarantee the future of water resources.
