The Government of Spain creates the Biodiversity Forum to bring science and nature closer to citizens

The Government of Spain, through the collaboration between the Biodiversity Foundation, of the Ministry of the Environment, and Rural and Marine Affairs, and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) has launched the Biodiversity Forum in Seville, with the aim of offering a meeting point between science and citizens.

The Secretary of State for Rural Affairs and Water and President of the Biodiversity Foundation, Josep Puxeu, and the President of the CSIC, Rafael Rodrigo, participated today in the opening ceremony together with the Mayor of Seville, Alfredo Sánchez; the Deputy Minister of the Environment of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Jesús Jiménez; the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Ana Leiva, and the institutional coordinator of the CSIC in Andalusia, Fernando Hiraldo.

Josep Puxeu highlighted during his speech the importance of preserving and caring for the richness of ecosystems and protected areas, as well as the wide variety of species and habitats that Spain has, and stressed the importance of promoting their knowledge among citizens to increase public awareness of environmental care. because it is a benefit for everyone.

For his part, the president of the CSIC, Rafael Rodrigo, highlighted the efforts that the CSIC has been making to communicate the work of the organization’s researchers to society. Rodrigo pointed out that the new centre is an example of this, as it represents a unique place for anyone to approach science and biodiversity in the way that interests them most, whether through exhibitions or watching a film or documentary.
