The winning students of the plastic expression contest “Imagine… an Iberian imperial eagle” have been Angel Soto, from Hoyo de Manzanares, Madrid, in the Primary category, and María Leva, from Córdoba, in the Secondary category.

This is the first edition of the awards, in which almost 200 schoolchildren from 15 schools in 11 municipalities adhered to the Network of Municipalities for the Iberian Imperial Eagle have participated, and which belong to the communities of Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, and Madrid, the five communities in which the Iberian imperial eagle lives in.

The contest was aimed at students in 5th and 6th grade of primary school and 1st and 2nd year of secondary school, who have sent drawings, collages, sculptures, etc. Before doing their work, the students have carried out the activities proposed in the didactic material created for the program by the Environmental Education Area of SEO/BirdLife with the aim of promoting among the children a knowledge and approach to the species prior to the elaboration of the works sent.

The jury has valued not only the creativity, aesthetics and complexity of the chosen technique, but also the degree of knowledge and emotional involvement with the species of the students.

In addition to the first prizes, equipped with binoculars, an interactive encyclopedia of birds and a wildlife guide, and material for their schools, there were second and third prizes, also equipped with materials for the knowledge of birds.
