The LIFE SHARA project, coordinated by the Biodiversity Foundation, has held today one of its last management committees with the aim of addressing the pending actionsin this last year of implementation, during which a new impetus will be given to communication and awareness tasks related to the importance of adaptation to climate change.
This 13th management committee has served to review the different activities pending to be carried out in 2021, activities that will serve to continue promoting the need to adapt the current way of life to the consequences of climate change, with an emphasis on communication, dissemination and training work.
These last months of the project’s implementation have been marked by the approval of the second National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (PNACC) 2021-2030 and by the celebration of Adaptes, the First Iberian Conference for Adaptation to Climate Change. A conference that was a great success in terms of participation and with which Spain and Portugal strengthened their ties to work together on the challenges arising from climate change.
2021 will be a year full of activities within the framework of LIFE SHARA. Part of these efforts will be focused on promoting the development and dissemination of the AdapteCCa website, the Platform on Adaptation to Climate Change in Spain, which has new functionalities and greater accessibility. The different tools available in AdapteCCa, such as the Climate Change Scenario Viewer or the Case Study Module, will be presented in four online workshops that will take place throughout the year.
The project will continue this year with the itinerancy of the exhibition “Adaptation to Climate Change”, which shows the importance of the human response to the impacts of climate change and whose last stop was in the municipality of Calamonte (Badajoz). Knowledge about the new PNACC (2021-2030) will also continue to be promoted through different activities, including the fourth sectoral seminar of the PNACC.
In addition, the project will materialize its commitment to knowledge, education and training through the call for two courses aimed at municipal managers and university teachers
LIFE SHARA “Awareness and knowledge for adaptation to climate change” is a project of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through the Biodiversity Foundation, the Spanish Office for Climate Change, the Autonomous Agency for National Parks and the State Meteorological Agency, and of which the Portuguese Environment Agency is also a member. The project is co-funded by the European Commission through the LIFE programme.
