The general director of Quality and Environmental Assessment of the Ministry of the Environment, Jaime Alejandre; the general director of the Spanish Association of Distributors, Self-Services and Supermarkets (ASEDAS), Ignacio García Magarzo; and the Director of the Environment of Fomento de Trabajo, Alba Cabañas, have presented the Manual of Good Environmental Practices in the Food Distribution and Supermarkets Sector.
This second expanded edition, revised and translated into Spanish for dissemination in the rest of Spain, is published three years after the publication of the Manual in Catalonia. With this editorial participation, the Ministry of the Environment wants to expand the range of good practices from purely industrial sectors to other fields such as production and commercial distribution.
This collaboration has been possible thanks to the fact that the companies associated with ASEDAS are very active in environmental matters. In recent years, these companies have incorporated into their management voluntary initiatives of a very diverse nature in defense of the environment, such as the reduction of emissions of polluting gases into the atmosphere in the transport of goods; the reduction of noise pollution in loading and unloading operations; saving energy expenditure by rationalising lighting systems in the facilities or recycling various materials through selective waste collection.
