The Ministry of the Environment will contribute 158,815 euros to the Funds of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

The Ministry of the Environment will voluntarily contribute a total of 158,815 euros to the Funds of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change for 2005. The total contribution of 158,815 euros, from the budgets of the Ministry of the Environment, will be allocated to the Funds of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which has helped the Secretariat for the proper development of its functions and the achievement of the objectives, among which the following stand out:

To implement the Decisions adopted by the Conference of the Parties.

Hold capacity-building workshops in developing countries.

To increase the participation of Ibero-American countries in the international process of the Convention; organize and finance workshops on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation and ensure the adequate and efficient implementation of the flexibility mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol, in particular the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

The contribution of this voluntary contribution to be made to the Convention will facilitate and strengthen the objectives and activities that Spain has set for the Ibero-American Network of Climate Change Offices (RIOCC).

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was adopted in 1992 and ratified by 186 countries, including Spain, and its ultimate objective is to stabilise greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at an acceptable level.
