The Minister of the Environment, Cristina Narbona, has met with the Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize winner, Wangari Maathai, to present and analyse how the Spanish contribution of one million euros for reforestation carried out by the Green Belt movement in Kenya will materialise.
The meeting has made it possible to contrast the importance of the results of the Green Belt movement led by Wangari Maathai, which currently directly involves more than 500,000 women in Kenya, who work on the reforestation of degraded lands, thus contributing to halting the advance of the desert and soil erosion and increasing the country’s forest mass.
This million euros will be used for training, information, mobilization of the population, in addition to specific reforestation tasks, such as the purchase and supply of seeds, seedlings, compensation for keeping the trees alive, and monitoring and evaluation of the results of the reforestation carried out.
