The NGO Edmaktub develops a remote-controlled plane to locate and take images of cetaceans

The goal? Locate cetaceans and be able to take images. How? Through a new model aeroplane developed by the NGO Edmaktub, in collaboration with the Biodiversity Foundation, which will allow the study of cetaceans, a species that tends to sneak away before the arrival of boats so the registration of their activity is complex.

In this way, through the remote-controlled plane from a boat, they will be able to approach dolphins and whales more quickly, and study their behaviors and habitat without altering their way of life. The model aircraft works with electricity and has a built-in film camera so the observation of cetaceans is obtained in high definition and in real time, to which is added a GPS system that allows location, thus improving field investigations.

So far they have discovered some novel issues in these waters, such as the resident population of sperm whales or changes in some whale migration routes.

In addition to this plane, Edmaktub has developed a six-propeller helicopter that allows a greater approach to these cetaceans, although it has a nine-minute battery life.
