The Minister of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, Isabel García Tejerina, announced this morning that her Department is already working on new editions of the PIMA Aire Plan. For García Tejerina, “they are a good example of what the environmental policy of this Government consists of: taking care of the environment effectively, contributing to economic reactivation, job creation and innovation”.
Isabel García Tejerina participated in the award ceremony of the II Awards for Best Practice in Sustainable Mobility, of the Excellence in Sustainability Club, the Biodiversity Foundation and the Renault Foundation for Sustainable Mobility, where she highlighted that these awards “contribute to promoting innovative activities that take into account the basic trilogy of sustainability: economic, environmental and social”.
The minister, who valued the involvement of the private sector in the defence and promotion of environmental commitment, stressed that sustainable mobility is a priority for her Department, as it contributes to improving the health and well-being of citizens, as well as promoting more efficient management of resources.
In this sense, García Tejerina pointed out that the improvement of air quality “is a basic axis of the Government’s environmental policy”. To this end, the Ministry has promoted the National Planfor Air Quality and Protection of the Atmosphere 2013-2016, the AIRE Plan, as the main backbone instrument in this area.
As he explained, to develop this Plan, the Plan for the Promotion of the Environment (PIMA Aire) has been launched, with the aim of stimulating the use of less polluting vehicles, whose application has involved the renewal of 35,000 vehicles and 2,800 motorcycles or pedal-assisted bicycles.
In this way, García Tejerina commented that, in addition to having a significant impact on the reactivation of the automotive sector, an average reduction of 94% in particulate emissions and 15% in CO2 emissions per vehicle replaced has been achieved.
